Security and Safety of Client Funds
- Interactive Brokers is an agency broker and is not involved in any proprietary or sales trading. Interactive Brokers do not trade for their own account.
- Interactive Brokers is a regulated broker subject to the SEC and CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) regulations.
- Customer funds are segregated in special bank accounts which are designated for exclusive benefit of customers. This allows the funds of the client to be returned in the case of broker default. Most customer funds are invested in US Treasury securities. The other portion is invested with large US banks. These deposits are distributed across several banks with not one single bank holding more than 5% of total customer funds.
- Customer Security Accounts are protected by Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).
- Customer securities accounts at Interactive Brokers LLC are protected by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation ("SIPC") for a maximum coverage of $500,000 (with a cash sublimit of $250,000) and under Interactive Brokers LLC's excess SIPC policy with certain underwriters at Lloyd's of London for up to an additional $30 million (with a cash sublimit of $900,000).
